Situations Vacant

Situations VacantI recently asked why it is that Dave Hartnett was still only "acting" head of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Now I know why.

HMRC, in the face of plummeting morale, are changing their complex and incomprehensible management structure to try to bring in some elements of corporate governance and efficiency from the real world.

As such, they are splitting the old role of Chairman, between a new full time position of Chief Executive and part time non executive position of Chairman.

I would ask as to why didn't they have this structure in place before?

Anyhoo, HMRC has scanned to "talent" pool within its organisation and found that it is sadly deficient; therefore the posts are being advertised in the real world.

Perversely, the vacancies are not advertised on the HMRC site, or on the Civil Service site.

Can anyone tell me when they will advertise for the position of Finance Director, which is soon to be vacated by Stuart Cruickshank?

It all seems rather muddled and vague.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. A part time post at over £150K a year an' all.

The rest of us will get a shite pay rise, work in ever worsening conditions and told that change is great.

No wonder morale is a rock bottom.

  2. With the usual tact and feeling the day after the Board confirm more massive job losses and the same day they announce further office closures they publish that they are going to employ two further top of the tree managers.
How many jobs that actually do work could they save on the proposed salary and benefits these jokers will get annually.
Soon there will be more managers employed than foot soldiers that actually do the work,it's about time some "Lean"principles were being brought into senior management.

  3. And when scores of offices are set to close and those at the bottom are forced to either travel to places outside reasonable daily traveling time (1 hour from where you live, and if asked to travel over 1 hour there are grounds for grievance) or leave.

Nice to see how the other half live isn't it?
