Hanging On The Telephone

I was gemused to read on the Economia members' page of Linkedin this post from Gavin Williams last month, concerning a phone call to HMRC:
"On a recent call to HMRC, only this time using the number advised for callers from abroad, I got through to a human being within 30 seconds.

In the spirit of keeping it up I congratulated the revenue on their customer service improvements.

Response: 'we are aware of the problem and it will be fixed soon. Callers from the UK will not be able to use the international number.'
"
As I noted yesterday, it's almost as though HMRC is developing a sense of humour/irony!

  1. As for the post, sounds about right... moving on

Forgive me Ken and one and all, I know this isn't a HMRC forum but I know how bright, clever, intelligent and helpful HMRC Staff are (flattery and a sense of humour gets you no where?) and wondered if anyone knew or could advise the legislation relating to electronic VAT invoices.

I am aware HMRC has a web page which precedes Notice 700/63 December 2003 (but doesn't say what it is) and while HMRC may issue a Notice, what is the legislation that enforces this notice?

    Apologies and thanks

    both heros and thank you.

(seems quicker than wading through HMRC telephone helplines and web sites)

sadly refers to our friends at Vodafone... unable to supply access to THEIR web site for VAT invoicing AND the key words from HMRC (to Vodafone and any other supplier) –

"As long as you make sure that what you send to the customer is what they receive, any of these methods is acceptable."

When Vodafone send an email to a customer and it is NOT what they receive seems to be an issue hereabouts at the moment... (i,e Vodafone send electronic 'invoices' that are inaccessible... I can see this will be a long struggle, or perhaps an issue for Ken to run with? Or anyone else for that matter)

anyone from Vodafone of HMRC care to comment?

(sorry they are too busy out at lunch... a low blow perhaps but c'mon we gotta kep this blog contentious)

    Thanks again for comments
