HMRC Postal Delays

My thanks to a loyal reader who has posted a comment that indicates that HMRC's brave new world of digital scanning is having a few teething problems:
"For the past 36 hours or so. The scanned digital mail service has been broken. So we are now working 'paper' post from 1 October (that has been excluded from the scanning for whatever reason) despite the fact that we were answering letters received ~18 October via the scanning system.

There have been several attempts at implementing 'tranche 2' of the 'agile development' which have failed every single week for the past four weeks.

The cost of licenses for the KANA e-mail response software that allows structured e-mails to be answered from a pilot audience, suddenly isn't a huge security problem any more!!!! This is what our 'work steer' is from tomorrow. So, if you have written a letter to HMRC about your personal tax, don't expect it to be answered soon. The digital mail system is broken so we can forget your queries for a couple of months whilst your letters remain in a completely outsourced data queue
."
I would be grateful have updates on the progress, or otherwise, of resolving these issues.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. inept management, consultants riding the gravy train on public funded poorly planned initiatives and ultimately a government that will write off the project AND losses rather than have it 'go public' the shop floor will get a kicking (again) while everyone else quietly walks away!

  2. Not to mention that post going out from the HMRC is sent from each office, even as far north as Aberdeen and as south as London and beyond, to post rooms. That are being shut down, including Cardiff (already closed) and Newcastle, to open a super post room. In Newcastle. So closing 6 offices, and opening one. Where one of them was already. Oh also, the "shut" office in Cardiff? They still send post there to give the staff "worthwhile value work" until they take a package, get another job, or just quit.
That BBC3 job centre comedy show doesn't reflect half of the ludicrous shambles that occurs in UKCS.
