HMRC Pisses Off MP For Bootle

Peter Dowd MP  for Bootle is more than a little pissed off with HMRC.

For why?

It seems that HMRC did not brief him ahead of the announcement that the town’s tax office was set to close.

The ECHO reports that early yesterday HMRC confirmed that it will close its Triad centre in Bootle, and that all staff will move to a new “super call centre” at the Grade II*-listed India Buildings in Liverpool city centre .

Peter Dowd, who has spoken out against the proposed move in the past, said:
I am furious that I have had to learn of such an important decision from the ECHO. I later checked my emails and discovered that a letter from HMRC chief executive John Thompson was sent to me at around lunchtime today.

But that is still not good enough. I would like to point out that I am also shadow chief secretary to the treasury, and this decision fell well within my brief. I would have liked a bit of notice ahead of an announcement that is so important to my constituency.”
Staff will start moving from the landmark Triad building on Stanley Road to the India building from 2019. Workers from other HMRC regional centres will also move to the India building on Water Street.

HMRC's communications found wanting?

Quelle surprise!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Thats Bootle finished then!
Will buy extra popcorn when shopping, this could develop into the long awaited straw, certainly upset possibly one of the most influential people on the outside of the treasury, certainly cause the spotlight to shine upon Excom & Co.
Aware that this is not the first time they have upset a sitting Labour M.P.
Maybe result in the odd head rolling but if there is any justice left around it will stimulate the long awaited investigation. Just don't let it be an inquiry FFS!
Another city centre location, bloody hell, think of the carbon footprints this is going to create. Perhaps they will build a bridge across the Mersey to alleviate tunnel and ferry problems and as for parking?

  2. The HMRC Chief Executive sent a letter to my local MP which was misleading and fundamentally dishonest. Doesn't really seem that HMRC have a lot of respect for MPs. It really can't be good for democracy.

However, reading other stories just lately, its quite possible that some manager's boyfriend who would be told confidential news before the relevant parties. Yes it is disgusting. But in HMRC's eyes 'they're only f**king with people's lives' and sadly nothing will be done about the nasty incompetent & cowardly bunch 'running' the place you know.

  4. This organisation has stood by and variously enabled, caused & created injustices, including managers avoiding justice for misconduct.

They are NO better than a common criminal, now when's that investigation starting with no hiding place for the guilty?

  5. Sorry, I don't buy this.

The people working in the Triad (and St John's House) have known for ages that they would be moving into Liverpool city centre, it was just a question of exactly where.

If Dowd wasn't aware of this, then it says an awful lot about the calibre of MPs who know that their nomination for an ultra-safe seat is alone enough to give them a job for life. Merseyside and South Wales and full of these imbeciles. Dowd's pulling a fast one.

  6. My limited personal experience of Jon Thompson is that he is a liar and an apologist (if not a participant?) in the brutal cowardly bullying which goes on within HMRC. He publically calls himself a Christian and a Social Mobility champion.

If that's the attitude toward the HMRC bullying from the top, then well...
